Seining and Shore Exploration

Join the Urban Park Rangers to explore the hidden life along New York City’s shoreline. Using a seine net, we will sample the shallow waters to discover fish, crabs, and other marine creatures living just offshore. In late summer we may even encounter colorful tropical visitors known as “Gulf Stream Orphans,” young fish carried hundreds of miles north by the Gulf Stream. Learn how ocean currents connect New York City to the Caribbean and how scientists study coastal ecosystems.
